About Hotels in Iceland

An independent editorial guide to hotels across Iceland, written by editors who have driven the ring road more than once and know the difference between Vík and Höfn.

Our story

Hotelsiniceland.com started as a domain and a working list of hotels that first-time travellers kept asking us about. The trouble with Iceland hotel advice on the open web, then and now, is that it is dominated by either OTA aggregators (which sort by margin, not merit) or Instagram influencer posts (which sort by lighting). Neither of them respect Icelandic place names, and neither of them will tell you that a $2,400-per-night lodge is worth it for a specific reason or that a $150-per-night guesthouse is better than three of the mid-range chain hotels next to it.

In 2026 we relaunched the site as an editorial project. The mission is straightforward: give a well-travelled English-speaking reader planning an Iceland trip the honest information a friend who lives there would give them. Recommend hotels the way an editor would recommend restaurants, with the specifics that matter (room 12 faces the aurora, the tasting menu is worth ISK 15,900, the shower pressure is not what it should be for the price).

How we work

  • We stay where we can. First-hand stays are noted on each review page.
  • We verify what we cannot stay at. Verified reviews aggregate Booking.com and Tripadvisor guest data, hotel materials, and returning-guest interviews, with the disclosure on the review page.
  • We disclose every affiliate relationship. Booking.com Partner Program, Hotels.com and Expedia via EGAP, direct-hotel affiliates for named properties. Affiliate revenue does not affect our rankings.
  • We spell Icelandic place names correctly. Þingvellir, Jökulsárlón, Höfn, Vík, Ísafjörður. URL slugs are romanised for browser compatibility; body copy is not.
  • We give real numbers. Prices in USD and ISK. Drive times in Iceland-realistic minutes (Google Maps plus 15 to 30 percent). Distances in km with mi in parentheses.
