Three notes for a honeymoon booking
1. Book six months out for the Retreat
The Retreat’s 62 rooms sell through fast for peak February and March aurora and for June to August midnight sun. Six months lead is the safe window; four months is a gamble even on shoulder dates.
2. Split the trip: capital plus rural
Two nights in Reykjavík (Reykjavík EDITION or ION City) followed by four at Búðir or the Retreat is the honest pattern. It puts arrival-day tiredness in the city and the honeymoon-proper somewhere with a hot tub and a view.
3. The elopement package is real
Iceland has become an elopement destination. Three of the four hotels here run in-house elopement packages with a local officiant, a photographer, and a helicopter option to a nearby glacier. Prices land around $4,000 to $8,000 above room rate.
